Associate Dentist

Dr Sludden graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Glasgow in 1991.

His path into dentistry began in childhood. As a nervous young patient himself, he was cared for by a gentle, kind dentist and wanted to offer that same experience to others. A strong interest in science, and the biological sciences in particular, drew him to a career that was practical and hands-on while remaining grounded in scientific understanding.

Dr Sludden takes a holistic approach to patient care. He focuses on understanding what each patient wants to achieve, then works with them to build a treatment plan around those goals. He places real value on establishing rapport early and explaining the available options in clear, relatable terms.

He enjoys most aspects of general dentistry, from straightforward direct restorations through to crown and bridge work. He is highly experienced in endodontics and finds completing a difficult root canal one of the most satisfying parts of his work. He also has a particular interest in direct composite restorations to improve anterior aesthetics, and is experienced in surgical extractions involving bone removal and root sectioning. He has a calm, reassuring manner with anxious patients.

While Dr Sludden does not hold orthodontic qualifications in Australia, he spent four years as a clinical assistant in orthodontics at his local hospital in Scotland, and is comfortable discussing treatment options with patients.

He has been a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) for over 15 years.

Outside The practice

Dr Sludden is a keen photographer and enjoys all genres, with a current focus on nature photography (particularly birds and insects) and seascapes around the Mornington Peninsula. He’s a fan of science fiction, political and crime drama, and nature and historical documentaries, and enjoys trivia and general knowledge board games with the family. Being beaten by both his children, he says, makes him feel like a successful parent.
